John KnutsonI’ve always been fascinated with photography, from developing black and white photos in the elementary school darkroom to modern digital equipment. Photography is a way to freeze a moment in time. I love capturing the natural world, form landscapes to wildlife. The solitude of nature can be soothing, but when we take time to really look, there is always something going on. Nature is never at rest. My favorite shots are those that capture wildlife in their element, or landscapes that when viewed bring out the feeling of being there at the moment the shot was taken. |
Stephani KnutsonDrawing for me is part of the process of understanding the nature of things. I draw to understand the subject, to clarify it. That is the way of a scientific illustrator. I choose pen and ink because it is simple and precise. There is only black or white. All shades are an illusion. I like using Pointillism techniques — single dots combined to suggest shading — because it is subtle and relies on the mind of the observer to understand that the sum is more than it parts. |

Galina LemkeI have loved to paint and draw ever since I can remember. I enjoy experimenting and trying out different medias; among my favorites are pen, oils, pastels, and color pencils. My childhood was filled with art classes and workshops where I learned the basics and started exploring the endless possibilities of my imagination. It would not have been the same without my wonderful teachers and my supportive family. |
Beth LovittTo be joyful is to be fully alive in the moment, to be present, without thoughts of what might have been or what may come. Photography brings me great joy. I become lost in the wood or the water or the mountain as I photograph it, my mind open to what the subject might bring, and this is what I hope to convey to the viewer: not a replica of an object or a recording of an event, but this feeling, this window to the present. |

Dan LovittWriting and singing songs gives me a chance to daydream and fidget with a sense of purpose, or at least an excuse.
|
Rebekah LovittI like art because it lets me express my feelings. |

Gwen Maxwell-WilliamsFiber art is one of the ways that I use to express my inner consciousness. It is a creative process that tells me much about myself. Initially my pieces may be inspired and developed from sketches, paints and collages from my sketchbook. As the work progresses, the pieces may take on their own lives. My work, colorful, joyful, and vibrant, is replete with pattern and texture. Strong patterns and the use of color combine to give energy, movement, and meaning to my work.

Sandy McKinstry Robinson Sandy is a third generation Seattleite, a true “web foot”. She has always had an appreciation of the beauty of nature, which is revealed in her watercolor paintings and photography. She is a graduate of the U. of W. where among other things she studied Art History, gaining insights from The Masters. Sandy was a Certified Ski Instructor for 25 years, so spent lots of time in our glorious mountains. Her husband, Ron, and she regularly go hiking in the Cascades and around the world, so nature is still a big part of their life and it continues to be reflected in the subject matter of Sandy’s art works. She particularly enjoys enhancing the colors in nature and uniquely embellishes her works by sometimes adding black ink line art over watercolor. Sandy’s paintings hang in many West Coast homes and the note cards that she makes from her painting are very popular as well. |

Melanie Pollon My business name, Revel in Clay, says it all – to be able to take a lump of clay and turn it into something will always be amazing to me. Whether it is a simple everyday item or an extravagant work of art, no two items are ever the same. The possibilities – the variety of clays, glazes, techniques, and firing methods - are endless. Yarn, my second passion, works the same magic for me. The variety of colors and combinations, the different stitches and fibers – I’ll never get through all the projects I imagine. |

Betsy Smith Since my early twenties I have studied and produced ceramics. I completed a Fine Arts Degree in 1981 and have been a Resident Ceramic Artist at Kirkland Arts Center since 2004. I also teach children and adult ceramics. Working and manipulating clay, on and off the wheel is where I begin my pieces. The direct feel of the clay and its responsiveness to my gestures provide the framework from which I build out a piece. My work ranges from simple functional tableware to more abstract non-functional pieces. Decorating the surface, I work with a broad color range in either low or high fire glazes. I enjoy the combination of a repeated design or gesture with layering to create complexity and depth. |
Jay St. Charles Most of my life I've been involved in the sport of archery as an instructor, a bowhunter and tackle builder. Hand crafting traditional archery bows has allowed me a means of creative expression through which I'm able to share my love of the sport. I enjoy tailoring bows to fit specific community needs, from beginner to the expert.

Abigail Zieger I love all art, but paper cuts especially because they pop out of the page at you just like they are alive. |
Meka Zieger "I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have not seen," is a quote from Frederick Franck, a Dutch illustrator. I've been keeping an illustrated journal for about 7 years now and I've learned that this is very true. Transferring what I see into this little book gives me a deeper alertness, a more profound appreciation, clearer aim, and...an excuse to make art. |
